A man was taken via Life Flight Helicpoter to Erlanger Hospital this morning after he suffered extensive internal injuries in a truck accident on I-75 North, according to the Chattanooga Police Department spokesman Sgt. Tom Layne.
The name of the man has not yet been released. The driver crashed his 2005 Ford Focus into the back of a big tractor-trailer that was hauling a backhoe about a mile south of Ooltewah exit.
“He apparently was unable to see or avoid the tractor-trailer for some reason,” Sgt. Layne said, explaining that investigators have not determined the cause of the accident.
After hitting the truck, the driver of the Focus skidded about 30 feet over to the side of the road. He was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated, Sgt. Layne said.
According to Sgt. Layne, the driver remains in critical condition.
